Choirs have traditionally not done that well on “America’s Got Talent”, but that was until the Detroit Youth Choir hit the stage.
For their audition, the choir performed a wholly unique cover of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s hit “Can’t Hold Us,” with different singers taking the lyrics while the rest of the choir tackles the backing vocals.
The judges were understandably blown away, with Gabrielle Union praising the choir’s “absolute brilliance,” while Simon Cowell makes a prediction.
“If you can keep doing this, where every performance is the last thing you’d expect a choir to do, you could win this,” he declared.
Before the judges voted, however, host Terry Crews was so moved by the performance that he was brought to tears, and tells the choir about his childhood in Flint, Michigan, explaining he wants to give them the opportunity he never received.
“All it takes it one person to believe in a young man or woman for them to reach their dreams, and you are that man,” he told the choir leader before slamming his hand down on the Golden Buzzer.
Crews later took to Twitter to share his emotional response to the choir, writing, “All it takes is ONE person to BELIEVE in one woman or man for them to reach their dreams.”
