Tom Holland and Zendaya are dishing about their awkward on-screen romance in their new film, “Spider-Man: Far From Home”.
“The way I describe it is kind of like a puppy love type relationship which is really sweet. And we’ve kind of played into the stereotype of what a relationship is like in your adolescence,” Holland tells ET Canada’s Keshia Chante during a sit-down interview in London, along with Zendaya and co-star Jacob Batalon who plays Ned in the movie.
“Nothing is ever smooth, nothing ever goes the way you want it to go and that is just how it is you know,” co-star Zendaya adds. “I think from that awkwardness is just a lot of sweet moments between them.”
While the actors may not have any problems locking lips on-screen for audiences in the film, they’re getting a little tired of the off-screen romance rumours.
“It’s a little annoying,” Holland says, as Zendaya adds, “It kind of comes with the territory you know, we know what we signed up for a little bit you know but…”
It’s not just teen romance at hand in the movie. In this instalment, Peter Parker and pals head off “far from home” on an epic European adventure. The cast tells Keshia they had plenty of fun shooting on location in Venice.
“Well, the stuff in Venice was crazy interesting cause it’s such a difficult place to shoot,” Holland says, adding that tourists are getting wind of the superhero movie’s filming location providing added challenges.
For Zendaya, part of the fun was just getting to set: “You take a water taxi to work.”
“Exactly,” says Holland. “You take a boat to work and then the whole of the city finds out the ‘Spider-Man’ movie is shooting in Saint Mark’s square and they say, ‘Oh we should go check that out.’ So it comes with its own set of challenges, but it was really fun to shoot there and it was a great time.”
Meanwhile, Holland also shut down those Zendaya romance rumours in a new interview with Elle, declaring that not only is he not dating his co-star – he’s not actually dating anyone at the moment.
However, he tells Elle that he’s “definitely a relationship person… I’m not the fleeting type at all; it’s not my way of life.”
