Mick Jagger Returns To The Stage For The First Time Since Heart Surgery As Stones’ Delayed Tour Kicks Off

By Corey Atad.

Mick Jagger appeared healthy and more energetic than ever when he took to the stage of Soldier Field in Chicago on Friday, the opening date of The Rolling Stones’ No Filter tour.

The tour had been pushed back a few months when the 75-year-old Stones’ frontman underwent heart surgery in March to replace a faulty valve.

His health issues apparently in the past, Jagger delivered an energetic performance, jokingly telling fans, “We loved Chicago so much we decided to start the tour here instead of Miami,” referencing the postponed tour that was to have kicked off in Florida.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Jagger was “a whirling dervish on the expansive, no-gimmicks stage, getting in more miles than a marathoner as he took full advantage of an 80-foot-or-so runway leading to a smaller auxiliary stage.”

Speaking to the CBC, Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood said of Jagger’s heart problems, “We thank our lucky stars. This was certainly a swerve — a left-hand ball — for us. We weren’t ready for this.”
