Michael Jackson’s legacy has become very complicated over the 10 years since his death but his family still completely stand by his memory.
On Tuesday, Jackson’s estate released a statement describing the singer as a “gifted artist and extraordinary humanitarian,” and adding that his influence on music and dance has made him “more important than ever,” according to Variety.
Family members also took to Twitter to share their tributes to their beloved Michael.
Jackson died at his Los Angeles home on June 25, 2009. In recent months, the HBO documentary “Leaving Neverland” has cast a long shadow over Jackson’s legacy, which Variety reports, has led to the abandonment of several tributes timed to the anniversary.
Those tributes included a possible unscripted TV series about Jackson’s life, and a recreation of the “This Is It” concert the artist was planning before his death.
The explosive “Leaving Neverland” featured long interviews with two men, detailing allegations of long-term sexual abuse and rape by Jackson when they were children.
