Mel Brown spoke about her relationship with her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte during an appearance on Wednesday’s “This Morning”.
Mel appeared on the show alongside her sister Danielle, speaking about a time when they didn’t speak for 10 years because of the singer’s marriage.
The Spice Girls member said, “I was in a 10-year marriage. Not the nicest marriage. I got very isolated from friends and family. It was really traumatic.
“One of the things [that happened] is you get cut off from friends and family. It was emotionally traumatic.”
Brown and Belafonte tied the knot in 2007.
The singer’s sister discussed with her the impact he had on her life: “A lot of the close friends and people who worked for you got pushed to one side. It was done gradually. We were the last ones to go. Me, my mum, and dad.”
Danielle would see her sister on TV but was unable to do anything: “You know the blankness in her eyes. Her eyes always looked dead, you’d know deep down she wasn’t that happy.
“We found out her phone number and address but it would all change. We would get a horrible email back saying, ‘We want nothing to do with you.’ Later on, we’d know it wasn’t Melanie replying.”
Mel shared, “I lost 10 years of being with my sister and mum. We lost time with each other’s kids.
“Life is getting better and better and better. I don’t live a life of a relationship full of lying and embarrassment and shame.”
