Eminem’s estranged father, Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr., has reportedly died.
According to TMZ, Mathers Jr. died of a heart attack in his home near Fort Wayne, Ind. at 67-years-old.
Eminem has been very vocal about his strained relationship with his dad in his music.
In his 2002 hit “Cleanin’ Out My Closet”, he raps: “I’ll take you back to ’73/Before I ever had a multi-platinum selling CD/I was a baby, maybe I was just a couple of months/My f**got father must have had his panties up in a bunch/‘Cause he split, I wonder if he even kissed me goodbye/No I don’t, on second thought I just f***ing wished he would die.”
Mathers Jr. is also referenced in “My Name Is”.
Mathers Jr. married Eminem’s mother Debbie when he was 22 and she was 15. After welcoming Eminem, their marriage ended and his mom later settled in Detroit with her son. Mathers Jr. got remarried, had two kids and moved to California.
