Ellie Goulding’s latest single “Hate Me” featuring Juice WRLD is here.
The singer FaceTimed with Zane Lowe on his Apple Music Beats 1 “World Record” show to chat about everything from her new track to her upcoming nuptials.
Explaining the writing process on “Hate Me”, Goulding tells Lowe: “I think you can always do the songs that give some kind of resolution, or give some kind of hope for a relationship. The truth of the matter is that humans are crazy and do f**ked up things to people, and that’s the truth.”
The new song sees Goulding going down a darker path and looking back on her past relationships which she says, “I needed to get it out of my system.”
“I realized that I can always try and wear these rose-tinted glasses when it comes to my own past relationships or my friends’ relationships, but actually, when it comes down to it some things are just really messed up,” she adds.
“Erase me, Erase me, wish you never date me,” sings Goulding in the track, the fourth single off her upcoming fourth album.
As far as the rest of the album, Goulding says it has been a work in progress for a few years but she never stops working.
“I am always writing, but the album is obviously something very special to me, and so I’m trying to make sure that it’s exactly what I want it to be and not just releasing it out of panic or because I need to release something,” she tells Lowe during their interview.
“I’m releasing songs because I feel like it’s quite a nice place for me to be in, because there’s no rules,” she adds.
Goulding reveals the album will be out at “some point” but she is more focused on her upcoming nuptials with fiancé Caspar Jopling.
“I’m just having fun with it, and I’m getting married in a couple months so I’m kind of thinking about that as well.”
