Chance The Rapper Explains Why ‘Juice’ Didn’t Make ‘Acid Rap’ Mixtape On Streaming Services

Chance The Rapper rereleased his 10 Day and Acid Rap mixtapes on Friday but one song was notably missing.

“Juice”, Acid Trip‘s megahit, was left out of the rapper’s discography after he released the mixtapes, from 2012 and 2013, onto streaming services for the first time ever.

When fans took notice, Chance explained why.

Instead of replacing the tune with a new song, a spoken-word explanation from Chance himself detailing the reasoning behind the song’s absence sits in “Juice”‘s place.

“I really wanted ‘Juice’ to be on the mixtape, but I couldn’t get it cleared in time,” he says, referring to the Donny Hathaway “Jealous Guy” sample — originally written by John Lennon — which was used as a backdrop for the song.

Chance also decided that all streaming proceeds for the alternate version of “Juice” will go to SocialWorks, the non-profit founded by the rapper in 2016 that aims to empower Chicago youth through the arts, education and civic engagement.
