While Canadian basketball fans are crossing their fingers in hopes that Raptors star Kawhi Leonard will return to Toronto after leading the team to its first NBA Championship, Raptors uber-fan Drake is taking things one giant step further.
Amidst reports that Leonard — currently an unsigned free agent — met on Tuesday with the Raptors in addition to L.A. teams the Lakers and the Clippers, New York Times sports writer Mark Stein is reporting that Champagne Papi “is said to be mounting his own recruiting campaign on top of whatever the freshly minted champions are doing to convince him to stay.”
According to Stein, the Lakers believe they’re in the lead thanks to solid recruitment efforts from LeBron James and Magic Johnson.
While it’s not known exactly what kind of perks that Drake is dangling in front of Leonard, Stein’s report led to an avalanche of Drake-Kawhi Twitter memes from those who are skeptical that Drizzy will be able to pull it off:
There were also those who felt that Drake enticing Kawhi to stay in Toronto is “God’s Plan”.
However, it looks like Drake has some competition from singer Bazzi, with the Lakers fan posting a video on Instagram of himself singing the following lyrics to the tune of Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature: “Kawhi Kawhi… tell me that you’ll be a Laker.”
Also throwing his hat into the ring is Snoop Dogg, who on Thursday offered his own version of the “Human Nature” song in hopes of luring Leonard to Los Angeles. Watch:
