Taye Diggs is standing behind his former “Empire” co-star Jussie Smollett.
During an interview with Danny Royce on “Black Hollywood Live”‘s “Inside The Black Actor’s Studio” podcast, the 48-year-old actor says he wants Jussie Smollett to return to “Empire” for season 6.
Diggs, who had a recurring role in the series from 2016 to 2017, tells Royce: “He is a good friend of mine. I love him. He’s only done right by me.
“People go through things. It doesn’t change who he was and who he is to me.”
Diggs believes the decision to write Smollett out of the series was made too quickly: “If I am being honest, the smart thing would be to bring him back and let it interweave into the show, you know?
“I feel like, people, I may get in trouble for saying this, but they’re so quick to just to leave, to leave these people. You know what I mean? So quick to fire them.”
Smollett was written out of the final two episodes of season 5 following the major controversy when it was alleged he staged a hate crime in which he was the victim.
Although all the charges were dropped back in March, “Empire” co-creator Lee Daniels has confirmed Smollett would not be returning to the hit FOX show.
