Jon Stewart joined hundreds to pay his final respects to 9/11 first responder Luis Alvarez Wednesday.
Alvarez’s funeral was held in New York after he passed away on Saturday at 53 following a battle with cancer, which was linked to the months he spent searching through the rubble at Ground Zero.
His coffin was draped in the NYPD’s green and white flag Wednesday, with musicians playing “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes.
Stewart recently spoke in front of Congress in support of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, insisting they should approve the extension of it.
Alvarez also spoke out in support of the fund, delivering an emotional speech in a bid to not have it expire next year.
