Keke Palmer was asked about her former mentor R. Kelly during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live”.
The documentary “Surviving R. Kelly” aired earlier this year before the singer was arrested amid numerous allegations of sexual misconduct.
Palmer was asked, “What is the most eye-opening part of watching ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ for you?”
The actress replied: “Oh, man. I don’t even know what to say. The whole thing – the whole thing was eye-opening, painful, sad, disappointing, heartbreaking.”
As Andy Cohen then asked if the news was surprising, Palmer said: “That’s not the side I knew, that’s not the person I knew. That’s not the person I worked with, that’s not the experience I had. Just imagine you having a great experience with someone, and then you’re hearing all this stuff, you’re like ‘why didn’t you show them what you showed me?’
“That’s the feeling I had. I hated talking about it because I was like man, you were a friend to me, but I’m seeing you as a foe to others, and I’m hurt for them. How do I put myself in this situation now? It was very sad, and I think anybody who loved him as a person feels that way. It’s not something you wanna hear about somebody that you care for.”
Palmer’s interview also saw her discuss working with the likes of Cardi B and Jennifer Lopez on their new film “Hustlers”.
