Ashlee Baracy is fighting back against trolls body-shaming her during her pregnancy.
The Ohio meteorologist told the Columbus Dispatch that she immediately felt dread when she learned in December 2018 that she was pregnant.
“The sad part is the second I found out I was pregnant, I knew I would have to deal with criticism of my body by viewers,” she explained.
As soon as she announced the pregnancy in February, she started receiving emails and comments on social media chastising her for her weight gain.
Rather than ignore the comments, Baracy began taking screenshots and posting them on her Facebook page to call them out.
“I had to have thick skin to be a public figure,” she told the Dispatch, “but this time, for me, was a little different. I’m growing a miracle and I have every right to have children.”
Baracy added, “Yes, I signed up to be a public figure, but my family didn’t. My unborn child didn’t.”
“Now that I’m going to be a mom, I want my child to be confident in their skin,” Baracy said. “Kids shouldn’t look at someone on TV and hear their parents say, ‘She looks fat,’ because what might they think when they look in the mirror?”
