Following R. Kelly’s arrest Friday morning in the wake of federal indictments involving sex with minors, the embattled singer’s publicist held a press conference which did not go as planned.
According to Complex, the Friday morning press conference was interrupted by the family of one of Kelly’s alleged victims.
“I don’t wanna hear all that,” Timothy Savage, Joycelyn’s father, shouted at Kelly’s publicist, Darrell Johnson, during the event.
“I wanna know where my daughter’s at!” the angry father continued. “Answer that question!”
Johnson was interrupted several more times during the contentious press conference, but made sure to emphasize that he is “not an enabler” for Kelly, but was merely “hired to do a job.”
Savage and wife Jonjelyn say they haven’t seen their daughter in more than two years, and in a 2018 interview with “Megyn Kelly Today” suggested Kelly has brainwashed her.
“It was as if she was brainwashed. [She] looked like a prisoner – it was horrible,” recalled Jonjelyn. “I hugged her and hugged her. But she just kept saying she’s in love and [Kelly] is the one who cares for her.”
She added: “I don’t know what to do. I hope that if I get her back, I can get her treatment for victims of cults. They can reprogram her. But I wish I could have stopped it from happening.”
Kelly is facing numerous charges, including a 13-count federal indictment in Illinois that includes charges of child sex crimes, child pornography and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government, while a 10-count indictment filed by the Eastern District of New York includes charges of racketeering, transportation for prostitution and coercion or enticement of a female.
In a statement via Fox 5 News’ Lisa Evers, Kelly’s lawyer Steve Greenberg says that he and Kelly “look forward to his day in court, to the truth coming and to his vindication from what has been an unprecedented assault by others for their own personal gain.”
