Meghan Markle has appeared on plenty of red carpets during her acting career, but on Sunday the Duchess of Sussex made her first appearance at a movie premiere since becoming a royal when she and Prince Harry attended the London premiere of “The Lion King”.
Accompanied by her tuxedo-clad husband, the former “Suits” star dazzled in a chic black gown.
The royals stopped to greet fans on their way into the premiere, held at London’s Leicester Square.
Their arrival was followed by that of “The Lion King” star Beyonce, accompanied by husband Jay-Z.
Royal correspondent Omid Scobie tweeted the news earlier this month, writing that Buckingham Palace confirmed the royals would be attending the premiere, which is being held to support the conservation efforts of The Royal Foundation, described as “the primary philanthropic and charitable vehicle for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
As anticipated, Harry and Meghan did run into Beyonce and Jay-Z at the premiere, and the two couples stopped to chat — and, at one point, hug, with both Meghan and Harry photographed embracing Queen Bey.
Beyonce and Meghan spoke about their kids. “That baby is so beautiful,” the singer told Meghan.
Back in February, Beyonce and Jay-Z accepted an award in front of a picture of Meghan with a tiara on. “In [honour] of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas,” Beyonce later wrote on Instagram. “Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy.”
