John Oliver Talks Not Getting To Meet ‘The Lion King’ Co-Star Beyoncé

John Oliver is a “gigantic movie star” now, but that doesn’t mean he can hang with Queen Bey.

The “Last Week Tonight” host was on Global’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Friday to talk about starring as Zazu in “The Lion King” remake.

Of course, one of the most important details Colbert wanted to know was whether Oliver actually got to meet his co-star Beyoncé, showing a photo of the entire cast in which the two appear to be standing next to each other.

“She wasn’t there,” Oliver revealed. “I remember we were setting up the shot and Chiwetel [Ejiofor] who was sitting in the front said ‘You need to be careful of where your foot is.’ And I looked down and there was just this piece of tape on the floor with Beyoncé’s name written on it and literally, it was like an electrical reaction. ‘Ohh s**t!’”

He joked, “Just the future presence of Beyoncé was so intimidating. So if you look at my face in there, I look really intimidated, and that’s because what I’m doing is imagining I’m about to be put in a photo with Beyoncé one day.”

Oliver also noted that there was some physical space between himself and Beyoncé in the photoshopped image.

“It’s only appropriate there’s a significant gap between me and an actual queen,” he laughed.

Also on the show, Oliver gave Colbert a breakdown of the extremely complicated goings on in British politics at the moment.

Oliver also did his best to answer Colbert’s question about what gives him hope through all the despair he highlights on “Last Week Tonight”.

“The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on Global.
