Renowned Hong Kong actor Simon Yam is out of hospital after being stabbed in a scary incident in China last week.
The 64-year-old, who is known to North American audiences for his role in the film “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life” was at a promotional event in the Chinese city of Zhongshan.
According to the BBC, while Yam was speaking to the audience, a man approached the stage and lunged at him, stabbing him.
Yam was taken to hospital for treatment, and his injuries were reportedly not life-threatening.
“He was stabbed in his stomach and slashed on his arm, but was conscious the entire time,” Yam’s manager said. “A preliminary investigation showed his injuries were not critical but the doctors are still deciding whether to operate on him.”
On Wednesday, Variety reported that Yam had been released from hospital after undergoing multiple surgical procedures to his abdomen and right hand.
“I hope I recover soon and resume film shooting, which I really enjoy,” he said leaving the hospital with his arm in a sling. “It will take a bit more time for my hand to recover. As it will take time for nerves to recover.”
The attacker was apprehended and detained at the scene. Police said the attacker was 53-years-old and described him as schizophrenic.
“We do not want to take action. We just want to understand what happened. What made the man snap?” Yam’s management said.
