We are just one month away from the release of Taylor Swift’s seventh studio album Lover, and fans were sent into a frenzy after information was leaked ahead of the singer’s Instagram Live announcement on Tuesday.
iTunes unveiled a track called “The Archer”, which just so happens to be the fifth track on Swift’s upcoming album. This new song pairs perfectly with the Easter egg that the songstress alluded to on Monday.
The “You Need To Calm Down” performer teased on Instagram that she would be sharing some exciting news, including more details about one specific Easter egg from her latest music video.
In case you forgot, Swift dropped a star-studded music video for her latest single on June 17, which included breakout musician Hayley Kiyoko shooting an arrow at a target featuring the number 5 as its bull’s-eye.
Dedicated Swifties know that track 5 on the Grammy Award winner’s albums are some of her most iconic and emotional songs, like Red‘s “All Too Well”, Speak Now’s “Dear John”, and Reputation‘s “Delicate”.
“Track five is kind of a tradition that really started with you guys. Instinctively I was putting a very vulnerable, personal, honest and emotional song on track five,” she said of the track in the livestream on Tuesday.
She added, “It’s just a song that I love on the album. But I haven’t made a video for it. It’s just sort of a glimpse into another side of the album I wanted to show you.”
Fans took to social media to express their excitement towards track 5 and a potential collaboration involving Swift and Kiyoko:
The “ME!” singer had previously taken to Instagram Live on June 14, 2019, to announce her new album, which will feature 18 tracks and is described by Swift as a “very romantic” album.
“Not just simply thematically, like it’s all love songs or something. But the idea of something being romantic doesn’t have to be a happy song,” she teased. “I think that romance… you can find romance in loneliness or sadness or going through a conflict or dealing with things in your life. I think it kind of looks at those things with a very romantic gaze.”
Lover hits shelves and streaming services on August 23.
