The Las Vegas District Attorney will not be prosecuting superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in a 10-year-old sexual assault case.
According to KTNV Las Vegas, the Clark County District Attorney’s Office has declined to prosecute Ronaldo over an assault claim dating back to June 2009.
At the time, a female victim called Las Vegas police to report being sexually assaulted. Though she said she knew who had assaulted her, she refused to name her assailant.
The criminal investigation was eventually closed due to a lack of evidence.
In August 2018, the woman contacted Las Vegas Police once again, naming Ronaldo as her assaulter, and asking that the investigation be reopened.
An investigation was conducted and a Request of Prosecution was filed with the DA’s office on July 8.
After reviewing the investigation, the DA chose not to prosecute, stating that the allegations against Ronaldo cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
