Idris Elba Reacts To ‘Cats’ Trailer, Says He Lived His Dream In ‘Hobbs & Shaw’

Idris Elba is opening up about his whirlwind year.

The 46-year-old actor catches up with ET Canada’s Sangita Patel in London, where he talks all about starring in “Hobbs & Shaw”, and reacts to seeing himself as a clean shaven feline in the recently released “Cats” trailer.

“When you saw yourself as a CGI cat clean shaven what was your reaction?” asks Sangita.

Unable to compile his thoughts together, Elba immediately burst out laughing before doing his best impression of a cat: “Rawwrrrr, that was my reaction.”

After finding the words, he praises producer Tom Hooper for bringing the vision to life.

“Movie making is incredible at the moment,” says Elba. “The magic we can do.”

Elba, who stars alongside Taylor Swift, Jason Derulo, and Jennifer Hudson in the film adaption, reveals his character is the villain: “I’m playing Macavity, which is a poor guy, but he’s a bit of a naughty cat.”

From kitty cat to to action-packed, the British actor can do it all.

Elba stars as another villain, this time alongside Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham in the latest “Fast & Furious” spinoff adventure “Hobbs & Shaw”, and tells us he lived his dream.

“I loved it. I like fighting, I like bikes, so I got to play a character that lives that,” he says.

But, he admits his character Brixon is a little bit different from who he is off-screen: “He has a big ego. Way bigger than mine. I got to play that a little as well.”

Elba may have had a successful year career-wise, but reveals the highlight was marrying his fiancée, Sabrina Dhowre.

“Getting married to my wife has been the highlight for sure. Having my whole family and friends and life network in one place just celebrating love was definitely a highlight.”

“Hobbs & Shaw” hits theatres on August 2.
