With eight movies down and a ninth on the way, it’s safe to say that “Fast & Furious” is one of the longest running film franchises to date.
While Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson shows up in the fifth movie, “Fast Five” as agent Hobbs, Jason Statham only takes on a major role as lawless outcast Shaw in “Furious 7”.
Now, the two actors will star in a “Fast & Furious” spinoff called “Hobbs and Shaw.” While chatting with ET Canada’s Sangita Patel in London, Jason Statham, 51, shares how blessed he feels to be a part of the franchise.
“It’s a great privilege for many reasons,” he says. “Franchises don’t last more than two or three and if you’re lucky, four. This has gone on and on so to be part of something that has great success and great appeal around the world is always a great sort of handshake to what we do.”
“We try to make movies that we have success with, that strike a cord with people. The fanbase on these movies, they’re so passionate so it means a lot to be part of these films.”
Another perk of the job for Statham is being able to tease his “Hobbs and Shaw” co-star.
“I don’t like to puff [Dwayne] up anymore than he puffs himself up,” he jokes.
With that in mind, Statham shares a little secret with us about The Rock. “We had to CG him into the car,” Statham reveals. “One, he can’t get in the car and two, he has terrible anxiety and he has motion sickness. So you know, he comes out in all hives.”
“Hobbs and Shaw” hits theatres August 2.
