Fadi Fawaz, the one-time boyfriend of George Michael, was reportedly placed under arrest amid allegations that he caused extensive damage to the late singer’s London home this week.
The Sun reports that Fawaz, 46, was arrested Tuesday after neighbours reported him standing shirtless on the roof of the house, in addition to hearing “loud smashing noises” and witnessing “water gushing out of the front door.”
When officers arrived, Fawaz was allegedly arrested on suspicion of aggravated criminal damage.
“The damage inside the house is really bad. I’ve never seen anything like it,” a neighbour told The Sun. “Every fixture and fitting, every door and window, everything George left in there – it’s all completely destroyed. Even the toilets and sinks have been smashed. There’s major damage to the walls and even the ceilings.”
Added the neighbour: “This can’t have happened in just one night, he must have been systematically smashing the place up for a long time. It’s such a shame because George loved that place and it used to be so beautiful.”
According to The Sun, Fawaz has been living in the home ever since the singer’s death on Christmas Day 2016 at age 53.
The London Metropolitan Police confirmed that an arrest was made, but pointed out that “the Met does not identify any person who may, or may not be, subject to an investigation.”
According to the official police statement obtained by ET Canada, officers responded to a report that a man had been seen on the roof of an address in Park Village Mews.
“Officers attended and the man was no longer on the roof but inside the address, which had extensive damage,” reads the statement. “Due to the damage inside the property the London Fire Brigade attended.”
The unidentified man, “aged in his mid-40s, has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated criminal damage,” the statement concludes. “He has been taken into custody at a north London police station.”
Last summer, Fawaz made headlines when he tweeted, “George I hate you,” adding in a since-deleted tweet, “Your power proved to me you could turn friends, family and strangers into liars, cowards and very much inhuman and yet this mega-power can’t make or keep someone kind or loving. And I cannot wait to prove that to you. With all my hate.”
