“Call Me Diana” is finally working its way into a theatre in London.

After years of crowdsourcing and searching for money from investors, the cast and crew of the musical based on Princess Di are ramping up for their September premiere date.

However, many details about the Princess of Wales’ life are being left out, according to the Sun.

Billed as a tribute to Diana, Prince Harry and Prince William are not featured in the plot. The Queen also doesn’t make an appearance. Prince Charles, however, makes a brief appearance for their wedding day.

One of the major players behind “Call Me Diana” is Brian Watson, a conspiracy theorist around Diana’s death, although he says that the play will not dive into those waters. Diana’s last partner, Dodi Al-Fayed, who also died in the Paris car crash which claimed her life, is another person left out the production.

“One of the parameters we set ourselves while writing this was we want a show about Diana that will not upset her sons. If they said, ‘We would like to see this’, we would be delighted,” Watson says.

The car crash won’t re-enact the car crash. “We felt it was totally wrong for a stage musical about this wonderful woman to end on that tragic death,” Watson adds. “You don’t want the audience leaving the theatre mopping their eyes. You want them to leave totally in love with the icon that Diana became.”

Players in Diana’s life that will be portrayed are Freddie Mercury and Kenny Evertt. Diana’s battle with bulimia and the famous “Panorama” with Martin Bashir are all part of the script.

Watson has invited friends of Diana to opening night at the Leicester Square Theatre including Rod Stewart, Elton John and Brian May.

“We were tired of the fact that whenever anybody wrote anything about Diana, it was tacky,” Watson says. “We believe she deserves a real tribute and that’s what we’ve written.”
