Shawn Mendes Responds To Fan Backlash After Seemingly Dodging A Question About Camila Cabello Collab ‘Senorita’

Shawn Mendes has been feeling the heat from fans who felt that he dodged a question about “Senorita”, his new collaboration with Camila Cabello.

While rumours swirl that Mendes and Cabello are in a romantic relationship (something both have staunchly denied, despite some pretty compelling evidence), Mendes raised eyebrows during a recent Q&A with fans when he made a hasty exit immediately after being asked about the collab.

A fan’s video of the exchange was posted on social media. “What inspired me to write ‘Senorita?’” Mendes says, repeating the fan’s question before laughing and then standing. “I love you guys, have a great time,” Mendes tells the crowd, blowing a kiss as he exits.

Not everyone was laughing, however, with some fans calling him out for not answering the question.

that was a perfectly normal question, if he was implying that it’s about his relationship with camila, the song in his words was written 11 months ago?? when camila was in a relationship? if that’s what he was implying? he kinda played himself?

Mendes eventually decided to respond, insisting that he didn’t mean any disrespect, but that it was simply time to cut off the Q&A.

“Hey! There was no bad intention here,” Mendes tweeted on Sunday morning, reports Teen Vogue (the tweet has since been deleted).

“If you were there you would have known it was the last question & that’s why I decided to turn it into a light hearted funny goodbye!” he added. “Sorry if that upset anyone, I adore you guys! No need for any negativity. ❤️”

While Mendes and Cabello have yet to confirm the romance rumours, she gushed about the 20-year-old Canadian hitmaker in a recent interview.

“I feel like it’s so rare to meet someone in this industry and find a person of that quality, and I feel like Shawn is that person for me,” the former Fifth Harmony singer, 22, told Clash magazine. “I just trust him, and no matter the level of intensity that he has around his career or I have, he is just normal, and that is so rare and precious to find in this industry.”
