Known for roles in such recent big-screen hits as “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Captain Marvel”, actress Gemma Chan is the subject of a new profile in The Guardian.
In the interview, the 36-year-old actress discusses her latest project, upcoming British TV anthology series “I Am”.
In her episode, “I Am Hannah”, she plays a woman in her 30s who confronts the societal pressure to have a baby, something Chan admits she’s currently experiencing in her own life.
“I have friends who are so happily married with children, on their third, some friends who’ve done it who are struggling with elements of it, and other friends who have no interest in it, are free and single,” says Chan, who is in a relationship with “Preacher” star Dominic Cooper, 41.
“Yeah. It’s weird. I do find it strange that in your 30s, suddenly, you become more aware that, if I’m going to do it, try to have a biological child, I need to think about it now,” she continues, adding, “Sorry, I don’t have anything to add to that.”
In the interview, Chan also shares an anecdote involving meeting one of Canada’s biggest superstars at this year’s Met Gala.
As she tells The Guardian, after returning to her hotel in order to change into her second outfit, she wound up on a bus heading to the after-party — where she found herself face to face with none other than Celine Dion.
“She was an absolute f**king legend,” says Chan of the “My Heart Will Go On” singer.
“It was me and her and her dancers, just dancing on this bus. It was the best half-an-hour of my life,” she gushes, revealing there is a video from the bus that she promises will never be seen.
“I can’t believe it happened,” she marvels. “Nothing will top that. I pole-danced on a bus with Celine Dion.”
