An intriguing new trailer for an upcoming spinoff of “The Walking Dead” promises to showcase “a new world” set within the show’s universe that viewers haven’t seen before.
A brief teaser released Tuesday features some of the new series’ actors offering some cryptic clues about the still-untitled spinoff, along with artist’s renderings of what this show will look like.
“What if you grew up in a world of safety?” says one actor. “And you decided to leave,” adds another of the show’s young actors.
“To discover the the truth of who you are and what the world is,” shares another. “You know. Growing up,” adds yet another.
“There have been things going on in the ‘Walking Dead’ universe. Since the very start of the story. All happening over all these years. In other places we haven’t seen. With people we haven’t seen. With the dead we haven’t seen,” the video continues. “But we’ll see it all this spring.”
“The new show is really on its own separate path. It’s a different feel and different tone,” David Madden, president of programming, AMC entertainment networks, told The Wrap last week at the Television Critics Association press tour in L.A. “It won’t look anything like the other two shows.”
“Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad,” reads AMC’s description of the series, which Madden said may not even have “Walking Dead” in its title.
The new “Walking Dead” spinoff — the second, following “Fear the Walking Dead” — is scheduled to premiere in spring 2020.
