The Toronto International Film Festival will be putting a spotlight on Canadian cinema in 2019.
On Wednesday, the festival announced its full slate of Canadian films across every program.
Along with previously announced films like “American Woman” by Semi Chellas and “David Foster: Off the Record” by Barry Avrich, the 2019 lineup includes Ellen Page and Ian Daniel’s new documentary “There’s Something in the Water”, Nicole Dorsey’s “Black Conflux”, and Calvin Thomas and Yonah Lewis’s “White Lie”.

“We are deeply impressed by the high quality of the work done by Canadian directors this year — particularly from filmmakers who were making their first and second features,” TIFF senior programmer Steve Gravestock said. “Within that group, there was an extremely strong contingent of female filmmakers working everywhere from Newfoundland to British Columbia and addressing a genuinely diverse spectrum of subjects, from mother–daughter relationships to the refugee experience, female friendships to youth in crisis.”
TIFF revealed two Canadian films included in this year’s popular Midnight Madness program: Jeff Barnaby’s “Blood Quantum” and Matthew Rankin’s “The Twentieth Century”.
Also announced are the Canadians included in TIFF’s Rising Stars program, including Kacey Rohl, Mikhaïl Ahooja, Nahéma Ricci and Shamier Anderson.
TIFF 2019 runs September 5 to 15.
