Khalid Benefit Concert For Victims Of El Paso Shooting Annnounced For Sept. 1

Khalid is moving forward with a benefit concert in his hometown of El Paso as the city recovers from the recent mass shooting that left 22 dead and injured dozens more.

On August 5, Khalid announced plans for a benefit concert to assist the families of the victims. The event has officially been scheduled for Sept. 1 at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso.

“I have been rocked to the core by the horrific act of gun violence that came to El Paso, and by the continued acts of senseless violence that our country faces daily,” the singer said in a statement, per Spin.

“I want to give back to my community of El Paso, the city of the 915, who has given so much to me,” he continued. “Please come out and let’s heal together through music while raising money to help those who need it.”

Last week, Khalid shared his feelings about the shooting online. “Over the past few days, my mind and heart have been heavy,” tweeted Khalid, who was born in Georgia but moved to El Paso as a teenager and now calls the city his home.

“Hearing/seeing an act of terrorism happen so close to home, my family, and my friends has been unbelievable and shocking,” he added. “Singing ‘915’ and ‘city of El Paso’ on tour every night feels indescribable.”

He continued by revealing plans for a benefit concert after “thinking of ways to help out and support the city,” and sent his love to the citizens of Dayton, Ohio, where another mass shooting took place during the same weekend.

“America is hurting right now,” he added. Tickets to the show go on sale Wednesday, August 14 at 10 a.m. MT and can be purchased here. Fans who can’t attend can instead donate by purchasing a t-shirt reading “Forever From The City Of The 915.”
