JUST ANNOUNCED: @thegr8khalid is headlining “A Night For Suncity” Benefit Concert at the Don Haskins Center in his hometown El Paso, TX. Proceeds from the concert will support the El Paso Shooting Victims’ Fund and the El Paso Community Foundation. Tickets go on sale 8/14 at 10am local.
“I have been rocked to the core by the horrific act of gun violence that came to El Paso, and by the continued acts of senseless violence that our country faces daily,” the singer said in a statement, per Spin.
“I want to give back to my community of El Paso, the city of the 915, who has given so much to me,” he continued. “Please come out and let’s heal together through music while raising money to help those who need it.”
Last week, Khalid shared his feelings about the shooting online. “Over the past few days, my mind and heart have been heavy,” tweeted Khalid, who was born in Georgia but moved to El Paso as a teenager and now calls the city his home.
“Hearing/seeing an act of terrorism happen so close to home, my family, and my friends has been unbelievable and shocking,” he added. “Singing ‘915’ and ‘city of El Paso’ on tour every night feels indescribable.”
He continued by revealing plans for a benefit concert after “thinking of ways to help out and support the city,” and sent his love to the citizens of Dayton, Ohio, where another mass shooting took place during the same weekend.
“America is hurting right now,” he added. Tickets to the show go on sale Wednesday, August 14 at 10 a.m. MT and can be purchased here. Fans who can’t attend can instead donate by purchasing a t-shirt reading “Forever From The City Of The 915.”
