Avril Lavigne still has faith in Head Above Water.
The Canadian singer’s first album in six years did not necessarily perform up to expectations. Head Above Water debuted at number 13 on the Billboard 200 chart back in February. It was the first time a Lavigne album did not debut in the top 10. Lavigne recently appeared on “The Zach Sang Show” and revealed her next promotional single will be “It Was in Me”.
The album’s lead single, “Head Above Water”, peaked at number 64 on the Billboard Hot 100. All three singles since – “Tell Me It’s Over”, “Dumb Blonde” and “I Fell in Love with the Devil” – failed to chart.
Lavigne, 34, described “It Was in Me” as “‘I’m With You’ Part 2.” She told Sang, “I got together with Lauren Christy. She and I had written ‘I’m With You’ together. And ‘Sk8er Boy’ and ‘Complicated’ and a bunch of other songs on the first album.”
“I hadn’t worked with her since then. So she came over to my home, and we sat,” Lavigne continued. “We spent like a few months around the piano just talking and catching up. I was like ‘can we please write another killer ballad?’ So we wrote ‘It Was in Me’.”
There is no confirmed release date for “It Was in Me” as a single.
