Do not be surprised if you see some familiar “House” vibes in Global‘s “Prodigal Son”.
The upcoming drama series centers on a young profiler, whose father is an infamous serial killer known as “The Surgeon”. The cast and executive producers of “The Prodigal Son” shared more about the series at a Television Critics Association panel.
They touched on how the series puts a Sherlock-Freud twist on the genre and is also infused with a touch of “House” influence.
“Chris [Fedak] and I were really just playing around with characters and what makes them interesting on TV,” executive producer Sam Sklaver said about the origin of the series, per Deadline. “We were wondering about parents and how they can affect the children.” He posed the question, “What if your father was a serial killer — but also a really good dad?”
“[Dr. Gregory] House is someone we looked to as a main character who has some trauma you can keep going back to but still care about,” he explained. “We will have cases in the show… we will have crimes and we will have mysteries,” said Fedak. “But it’s about the family.”
“Prodigal Son” stars Tom Payne, Michael Sheen, Bellamy Young and more. It premieres Sept. 23 and you can watch it on Global this fall.
