Daytime Emmys Merges Younger Actor and Actress Awards Into One Category

The Daytime Emmys is set to merge the Outstanding Younger Actor and Actress categories into one.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will make the announcement, according to Variety. The Academy already has a guest performer category that combines both genders at the ceremony.

Variety noted that “as part of the change, the newly merged category will also combine broadcast drama and digital drama performers in the same category.”

The Younger Actor in a Drama Series and Younger Actress in a Drama Series categories were first presented in 1985.

This year’s winners were Hayley Erin for “General Hospital” and Kyler Pettis for “Days of Our Lives”.

The Daytime Emmys news comes after MTV dropped gender-specific categories at the Movie & TV Awards and Video Music Awards.
