The “Lord Of The Rings” and “Stranger Things” star began trending Friday morning on Twitter for one reason or another. Some fans were worried something horrible had happened to Astin since his name started trending so suddenly.

Some are reporting a pair of adorable photos of Astin cuddling an otter are responsible. Others believe a reference to Astin’s work on “Stranger Things” sparked a broader discussion about his impressive filmography.
To add to all the incredible craziness, Astin’s mom — the late Emmy and Golden Globe award actress Patty Duke — also started trending on Twitter.

Even Astin seems to be confused as to the root of all this. “Guys, what is going on here?” he asked. “I feel drunk with power! Is this because of the otter kissing thing? OR BECAUSE… Everyone wants my rad new show ‘No Good Nick’ on Netflix to get picked up?”
“No Good Nick” is a comedy series starring Astin, Siena Agudong and Melissa Joan Hart. Astin’s other famous roles include “The Goonies” and “Rudy”.
