Taylor Swift is spreading the wealth.
The “You Need to Calm Down” singer just helped pay off a Canadian woman’s college tuition. Ayesha Khurram shared a money transfer she received from Swift on Monday.
“Ayesha, get your learn on, girl!” Swift wrote. “I love you! Taylor.” The note was accompanied by $6,386.47. Swift caught wind of Khurram’s needs after she posted about her student loan challenges on Tumblr.
Khurram had posted that her parents work minimum-wage jobs and her mom struggles with chronic kidney disease. The family were unable to cover Khurram’s college tuition and rent for the upcoming semester.
“I posted about struggling with paying for tuition. Two hours later, I get this in my email. I have no words and I can’t stop crying. I don’t have words. I don’t have words,” the Canadian captioned the Instagram post. “I don’t have words. I can’t stop crying.”
Khurram reflected on Swift’s generosity when speaking to Global News. “I literally could not believe it. It was like this guardian angel that kind of popped in and said, ‘Hey, you have troubles, but now you don’t have troubles anymore,’” she explained.
“She is honestly the kindest most genuine, most loving, caring person I know. She really is everything she appears to be,” Khurram continued. “Be good to people, be kind to people, pay it forward.”
Khurram is not sure what she would’ve done without Swift’s contribution. “It would’ve been pretty tough I had no idea how we were going to do it,” said the 20-year-old. “I didn’t really realize the impact of it until I calculated my funds and I realized it didn’t cover my student housing and the tuition itself.”
The two actually met in person last year when Swift’s team reached out and invited Khurram and her friends to a Swift concert. “Back in 2015, Swift gifted nearly $2,000 to another fan to help pay her college loans.
