Cate Blanchett just got a big dose of fan appreciation from Stephen Colbert.
The “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” star was on Global’s “The Late Show” on Monday night to discuss the new film.
But before broaching any other topic, the host and noted “Lord of the Rings” superfan brought up her role in the blockbuster film series.
“You have to endure this for just one second,” Colbert began. “There are some fantastic performances in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ but perhaps only two perfect performances: Ian McKellen as Gandalf and you as Galadriel.”
“Really?” Blanchett asked.
“Absolutely perfect expression of that character,” Colbert told her.
Blanchett said to him, “That means so much.”
Colbert then discussed the complicated motivations of the character, at which point Blanchett interrupted to say, “You would’ve played it so beautifully,” telling the audience, “If you could see his eyes right now.”
At that point, Blanchett also recalled that the first time she ever met Colbert, he was at Comic-Con dressed as a hobbit.
“It’s nice to be remembered by a person you admire,” Colbert jokes.
