It’s been awhile since Debra Messing and Susan Sarandon tussled on Twitter, but the “Will & Grace” star is proving that she’s ready to fire up their long-dormant feud.
The actresses — both liberal Democrats — have been at odds since 2016, when Sarandon supported Bernie Sanders in his presidential bid while Messing campaigned for Hillary Clinton. When Clinton received the nomination, Sarandon followed the lead of the “Bernie or bust” contingent and refused to support Clinton; instead, she began declaring that electing Donald Trump would result in some kind of social experiment that would upend the business-as-usual politics she predicted from Clinton’s election.
At the time, Messing, 50, slammed Sarandon, 72, for “not clearly disavowing” the former “Celebrity Apprentice” star, with the pair publicly feuding on social media and bashing each other in television appearances.
On Monday, Messing reignited the skirmish by taking a shot at Sarandon. “Hey Susan Sarandon,” she tweeted, “how are you liking the revolution?”
As People points out, Messing’s tweet refers to some comments Sarandon made back in 2016 while appearing on MSNBC’s “All In with Chris Hayes”, when she said, “Some people feel that Donald Trump will bring the revolution immediately if he gets in. Things will really explode.”
While Messing didn’t tag Sarandon in her tweet, it didn’t take long for the “Dead Man Walking” Oscar winner to respond — by urging Messing to join her aboard the Bernie bandwagon.
Nearly a year ago, Messing blasted Sarandon when she shared her theory that Trump’s election had a silver lining by spurring a record number of women and people of colour to run for office, telling her to “STFU.”
