Alessia Cara shows her versatility as a singer with perfect musical impressions of Billie Eilish and Amy Winehouse.
If Eilish ever loses her voice, she might want to get Cara to cover for her. The Canadian “Stay” singer, 23, was challenged to a rematch of “Wheel of Musical Impressions” on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”.
Cara was game. Right off the bat, she channelled her inner Eilish and gave “Pop Goes the Weasel” a “Bad Guy” makeover. She followed up with an impressive Amy Winehouse-inspired cover of “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” and an Alanis Morissette-influenced “Hush, Little Baby”.
Fallon too was game. He may not be on the road and in the studio singing on a regular basis, but the late-night host made up for it with sheer passion. He was tasked with performing “Rubber Duckie, You’re the One” as The Doors and “Baby Shark” as Mick Jagger.
Cara is currently opening for fellow Canadian singer Shawn Mendes on the North American stretch of his tour. The songstress told Fallon about her longtime friendship with Mendes and how the “Lost in Japan” singer got her noticed before she even embarked on a music career.
In 2013, Mendes shared a video of Cara singing online. “I wasn’t doing music at the time at all so my Twitter had, like, 50 followers or whatever. I started getting all these crazy mentions because he was big on Vine at the time,” Cara shared. “I followed him and he followed me and we kept in touch all through the years.”
