The Russo brothers are setting the record straight about a joke they made that got a little out of hand.
On Monday, the “Avengers: Endgame” directors featured in a video for Wired in which they answered fan questions from Twitter.
At one point, they told viewers that Richard Rider, a.k.a. Nova, a member of intergalactic police force Nova Corps, appears during the final battle with Thanos at the end of the film.
“You will see Richard Rider in the background of a shot,” Joe said. “Easter egg.”
Fans scrubbed through the sequence to spot Nova but it was apparently all a waste of time.
“That was actually a joke on our part,” Joe clarified to ComicBook.com later that day.
That said, fans are still hopeful that Nova may one day appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Nova is… if we have a big board with a bunch of characters that have more immediate potential, Nova is on that board,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told ComicBook.com back in 2018. “Because of the connection to the ‘Guardians’ universe, because there are more than one example to pull from in the comics that are interesting. And you’re absolutely right, he was in the earliest drafts of the [‘Guardians of the Galaxy’].”
