Julia Roberts, Judd Apatow Among Celebs Caught Up In Instagram Privacy Policy Hoax

A whole bunch of celebrities managed to fall for a viral Instagram hoax this week.

The hoax involved a claim that Instagram was updating its privacy policy with a rule allowing the social media company to “use your photos.”

Victims of the hoax were encouraged to post a disclaimer warning others of the update and revoking permission for Instagram to use personal photos.

The entire thing was made up but that didn’t stop millions from viewing and sharing it, including a number of celebs: Julia Roberts, Judd Apatow, Debra Messing, Taraji P. Henson, Julianne Moore, Martha Stewart, Scooter Braun, Rob Lowe, and many more.

Some celebrities did figure out the hoax from the get-go, with both John Mayer and Trevor Noah sharing their own parodies instead.
