The chilling first look at Lifetime’s ripped-from-the-headlines movie about the NXIVM cult has arrived.
“NXIVM Cult: A Mother’s Nightmare” focuses on “Dynasty” star Catherine Oxenberg’s real-life fight to free her daughter from the sex cult as depicted in her book, Captive: A Mother’s Crusade to Save Her Daughter from a Terrifying Cult. Oxenberg also acts as a producer on the movie, airing on Lifetime on Sept. 21.
After taking her daughter India (Jasper Polish) to a “leadership seminar” led by the enigmatic Keith Raniere (Peter Facinelli), Catherine (Andrea Roth) can’t shake the feeling that there’s something off about the self-help organization. India is pulled deeper and deeper into the cult, put on a near-starvation diet and branded with the cult leader’s initials before being put to work recruiting other women as sex slaves.
“Smallville” actress Allison Mack will also feature in the Lifetime movie. Played by Sara Fletcher in “NXIVM Cult: A Mother’s Nightmare”, Mack was a senior NXIVM member who helped recruit women to the cult and pleaded guilty to racketeering charges earlier this year. In June, NXIVM leader Raniere was found guilty on seven charges including racketeering, wire fraud conspiracy and sex trafficking.
