New footage from “Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker” was unveiled at Disney’s D23 Expo over the weekend and now the video has made its way online.
The “special look” at the trilogy ender features a look back at previous “Star Wars” movies, from “A New Hope” to “The Last Jedi”, before giving fans a taste of what’s to come.
The sizzle reels offer fans their first look at Keri Russell’s Zorri Bliss, as well as Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) battling it out on a ship in a churning sea. Rey looks very Sith-like in a black hood and wielding a double-sided red lightsaber.
Russell is one of the new faces of “The Rise Of Skywalker” along with Richard E. Grant and Naomi Ackie. Ian McDiarmid returns as Emperor Palpatine, along with cast members John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, and Billie Lourd. Original stars Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams are also set to return, as is the late Carrie Fisher through unused archival footage from “The Force Awakens”.
While on stage at D23, director J.J. Abrams confirmed Fisher’s appearance as Leia in the new film.
“We could not tell the end of these nine films without Leia. And we realized that we had footage from ‘Episode 7’ that we realized we could use in a new way. So Carrie, as Leia, gets to be in the film,” he said.
“Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker” opens in theatres December 20.
