Antonio Banderas is siding with Quentin Tarantino amid backlash over his depictions of real-life figures and abusive male behaviour in “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood”.

While discussing his upcoming TIFF film “Pain And Glory”, the Spanish actor says both filmmakers and moviegoers have the “freedom” to make their own choices.

“Tarantino should be free to make his art. I would never, never, never censor art,” Banderas, 59, tells The Independent. “I think an artist should be free. Then people should be free to agree or disagree. You have the freedom to continue watching his movies or not.”

The actor adds that if fans don’t care for Tarantino’s take, it’s their freedom of choice to continue watching his films. Banderas says people have a choice to say “‘I will never go and see a movie from Tarantino again’. Or ‘I love his movies and I’m gonna go and see them again.’ I think we should respect that freedom.”

While Banderas may not agree with everything he sees on screen, he will never “censor” someone’s artistic vision.

“There are sometimes things in art that, I have to tell you, they bother me… but I will never, never, never censor them,” he declares.
