Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello are celebrating the success of their new collaboration “Señorita” after the track hit number one on Billboard‘s Top 100 chart.
This marks the first top spot for Mendes, 21, and the second for Cabello, 22, who topped Billboard‘s chart in January 2018 with “Havana”.
The duo were quick to react to the news, with each issuing statements to Billboard.
“I’m so excited about the success of ‘Señorita’, and thank you so much to our incredible fans who made this all a reality,” Canadian-born Mendes exclaimed. “We really put everything into this song and couldn’t have wished for more.”
Added Cabello: “Thank you to our fans; we could not have done this without you. We are so grateful and I’m so happy to share this moment with Shawn.”
Cabello opened up about collaborating with Mendes in an interview with Variety, and didn’t exactly quash rumours that the pair are dating.
“I’ve known Shawn for such a long time, and it’s so much fun getting to work and do things with somebody who means a lot to you,” she said, adding that having recently fallen in love (without mentioning Mendes by name) has inspired her songwriting.
“Falling in love is like an infinite amount of levels and layers and angles,” she continued. “I fell in love and just opened up. Everything was written in present moment.”
Look for the duo to take this excitement to the stage of the MTV Video Music Awards on Monday night, when they’ll be performing the song live for the very first time.
