It’s not often one of your music heroes covers a song of yours.

That is exactly what happened to Miranda Lambert when Tanya Tucker covered Lambert’s song “The House That Built Me”. Lambert shared just how much the cover meant to her when speaking with Entertainment Weekly.

“Brandi [Carlile] sent it to me right after they cut it,” Lambert said. “Obviously, Tanya is a huge hero. I feel like I got handed such a gift when I found that song and I was so honoured to cut it and to sing it every night.

“So the fact that it touched a legend and she would do it again, it just shows you that it’s one of those songs that will live forever. It’s a classic and I can’t take credit for that. I still get a little starstruck around her.”

Tucker originally wasn’t going to do the cover. “I really did not want to be caught loitering around that song because Miranda had taken it as far it can go,” she told the publication. “But Brandi talked me into it.”

Lambert is preparing to drop her seventh studio album Wildcard on November 1.
