The Future Of The Catholic Church Is At Stake In New ‘The Two Popes’ Trailer

Two popes is better than one.

On Tuesday, Netflix debuted a brand new trailer for their upcoming awards contender “The Two Popes”.

The film stars Anthony Hopkins as Pope Benedict XVI and Jonathan Pryce as Cardinal Bergoglio, the man who would eventually become Pope Francis.


The progressive Bergoglio is invited to meet with Benedict after requesting to resign his post. Through a series of conversations, the two struggle over the future of the Catholic Church.

Netflix offered its first look at “The Two Popes” in a teaser released in August.

Directed by “City of God” filmmaker Fernando Meirelles, the film will play at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.

“The Two Popes” has a limited release in theatres starting Nov. 27 before premiering on Netflix on Dec. 20.
