Ruth Bader Ginsburg was happily married to husband Marty Ginsberg for more than 50 years before he passed away in 2010.
Jennifer Lopez has been divorced three times and is currently headed to the altar for wedding number four with Alex Rodriguez, considered one of the most notorious ladies’ men in Major League Baseball during his heyday with the New York Yankees.
Given RBG’s single successful marriage and JLo’s three failed ones, it would seem as if the Supreme Court Justice would have some wisdom to share with the “Jenny From the Block” singer — which actually happened!
During a Q&A panel at the Library of Congress on Saturday, Ginsburg, 86, revealed that she recently received a call from Lopez, 50, requesting that they meet.
“I was called up about a month or so ago by Jennifer Lopez, and she said she would like to meet me and introduce her fiance Alex Rodriguez,” shared Ginsburg.
The couple came to visit Ginsburg in her chambers, where she said they “had a very nice visit. She mostly wanted to ask if I had any secret about a happy marriage.”
So Ginsberg passed along the sage advice given to her by her mother-in-law.
“On the day I was married, my mother in-in-law… took me aside and said she wanted to tell me what was the secret to a happy marriage. And I said, ‘I’d be glad to hear it, what is it?’ And she responded, ‘It helps, sometimes, to be a little deaf.'”
JLo took to Twitter to confirm Ginsburg’s story, admitting she was “in awe” and added more details of their conversation.
Lopez elaborated on her conversation with Ginsburg when speaking to “Good Morning America” on Tuesday. “I was on tour this summer for the It’s My Party Tour,” Lopez said. “We stopped in Washington and we went to visit her.”
“I was like, ‘what’s the secret. Tell me something. I’ve been at this for a minute and I need some advice.’ She was just beautiful and she said, ‘sometimes it helps to be just a little bit deaf.’ Not blind people, deaf.”
