Taylor Swift has cause to celebrate!
On Sunday, Billboard made it official with the release of its Top 200 album chart, with her new album Lover debuting in the number-one spot.
According to Nielsen Music, Lover sold 867,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending August 29, with 679,000 of those album sales. Both the numbers, notes Billboard, are the largest for any album in a single week since 2017 — when Swift’s reputation likewise debuted at number one, with 1.238 million units in its first week.
In addition, 13,000 were in TEA units (track album equivalents) and 175,000 were in SEA units, with the latter translating to 226 million on-demand audio streams of the album’s songs during its first week of release.
On Saturday, Swift shared a special message of thanks to her fans via social media.
“I just have to say to you guys, thank you so much for one of the best weeks of my life,” she said in a video posted to Twitter.
“I can’t thank you enough. Like I couldn’t have imagined it going better or being more fun, and getting to meet so many of you and seeing all the things you were saying about Lover online,” she added. “I just love you guys, and I’m really, really, really lucky and I know it every single day. Thank you so much.”
