On Friday, Debra Messing and her “Will & Grace” co-star Eric McCormack took to social media to urge The Hollywood Reporter to report on the identities of the donors who’ll be appearing at President Donald Trump’s upcoming fundraiser in Beverly Hills.

In a pair of perfectly timed tweets, Messing declared that “the public has a right to know,” while McCormack asked THR to “kindly report on everyone attending this event, so the rest of us can be clear about who we don’t wanna work with.”

Given the turmoil going on with Trump’s trade war with China, yet another mass shooting and the category five hurricane heading for the Florida coastline, one could assume the president would have his hands full on what should be a hectic day.

And one would be wrong. As busy as the president should be, he still managed to make the time to fire back at Messing by relating an anecdote from the days when they were both stars on NBC’s Thursday night lineup, claiming that Messing was so grateful for “The Apprentice” improving the ratings of her show that she “came up to me at an Upfront & profusely thanked me, even calling me ‘Sir.’ How times have changed!”

A couple hours later, Messing fired back. “Now that I have your attention @realdonaldtrump, please read this thread — a PARTIAL list of souls lost to preventable, devastating gun violence,” she wrote.

“America wants universal background checks. The majority of Americans want assault weapons ban[ned],” she added. “Take Action and I’ll call you Sir.”

Messing got into even more detail on Instagram, posting screenshots of her exchange with Trump while marvelling that he would actually devote any attention to her when he seemingly has so many more pressing matters to deal with.

“So! I woke up this morning to my phone notifications going crazy. I got scared. I thought ‘Oh NO! Don’t tell me there is a 3rd mass shooting this weekend! Don’t tell me the Bahamians have lost their homes, their Lives by Hurricane #dorian!” she wrote in the caption.

“It was Trump. NOT CALLING McConnell and demanding an end to the recess, and an emergency meeting to pass the gun violence bills passed by the House months ago. NOT reversing his decision to move $155 MILLION DOLLARS from FEMA Disaster Fund to ICE. Nope. What was on Trump’s mind in the midst of such tragedy, was me. The LAST thing that should be on his mind or in his tweets,” she concluded, adding the hashtag #25thamendment, referencing the constitutional amendment outlining the process to remove a sitting U.S. president from office.

She then posted another video saying “this is not about Trump, this is about you.”

In an attempt to better communicate with people not through social media, Messing handed out her number asking for people to text her.

“I look forward to hearing from you,” she said.
