“Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi returns to indie filmmaking in the anti-hate satire “Jojo Rabbit”.
Fox Searchlight released a new trailer for the film based on Caging Skies by Christine Leunens. The black comedy-drama depicts newcomer Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo “Rabbit” Betzler, a nationalistic young boy in Nazi Germany.
Jojo Rabbit’s worldly views are thrown for a loop when he bonds with a young Jewish girl being sheltered by his mom (Scarlett Johansson).
Director Waititi stars as Adolf Hitler in the film — that is, an imaginary version of Hitler projected by Jojo.
Fox Searchlight and Walt Disney have high hopes for “Jojo Rabbit” as it continues to generate Oscars buzz.
“Jojo Rabbit” premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8. It also stars Rebel Wilson, Alfie Allen, and Stephen Merchant. It premieres in theatres October 18.
