Only a few weeks after revealing his plans to return to standup comedy, Eddie Murphy has now made it official: The “Saturday Night Live” alum will be hitting the road for a comedy tour next year.
Murphy, 58, has not performed standup since the 1980s, but on Thursday he revealed plans for a 2020 tour.
Being interviewed for Netflix podcast “Present Company with Krista Smith”, Murphy declared, “Next year I am going to tour, do some standup.”
While Murphy didn’t offer any more details, back in July TMZ reported he was in negotiations with Netflix for a multimillion-dollar deal (rumoured to be $70 million) for an “undisclosed number” of standup specials for the streaming giant.
During a discussion about standup with Jerry Seinfeld in the latest season of “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee”, Murphy revealed his intention to return to the stage.
“I’m going to do it again. Everything just has to be right,” Murphy told Seinfeld. “You have to get up there and start working out.”

Murphy will next be seen playing famed blaxploitation star Rudy Ray Moore in the upcoming Netflix movie “Dolemite Is My Name”, set to debut at TIFF before streaming later this year.
