Meghan Markle flew to New York Friday to cheer on her good friend Serena Williams in the U.S. Open tennis final the following day.
Meghan, who has been friends with Williams for years, will be there when the tennis pro takes on Bianca Andreescu in the final Saturday.
A source told the Times, “It is a last-minute trip. Excited to support her friend, and then come back.”
People added that the Duchess of Sussex, who, it’s said, took a commercial flight following the recent private jet backlash, was making the trip without her husband Prince Harry or four-month-old son Archie.
Another insider told royal reporter Omid Scobie that Meghan is “super excited” to be in NYC to cheer Williams on. “It wasn’t originally in the diary, a last minute trip, but you support your friends no matter what.”
The Duchess was seated with William’s husband Alexis Ohanian for the match.
Other celebs in the box included Spike Lee, Taraji Henson, Betty Gilpin, Andy Cohen, Taye Diggs, Uzo Abuba, Rick Fox, Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, Cara Delevigne, Ashley Benson and Anna Wintour.
She’s expected to return to the U.K. by week’s end.
Meghan’s latest NYC visit comes after her friends, Williams included, threw her a baby shower in the city back in February.
